LIVINGSTON,
Ala.--The
University of West Alabama’s Black Belt Conservation
and Research Institute, in conjunction with The
Nature Conservancy, will host a symposium June 20-21
that includes a variety of presentations and field
trips highlighting Black Belt prairie conservation
efforts in the region.
Symposium speakers
include representatives from federal and state
agencies, university faculty, restoration
scientists, private conservation groups and land
owners lecturing on geology and natural history,
regional tourism, prairie restoration and management
efforts, recreation and hunting and other
informative topics.
The conference begins
Friday, June 20 at 9:30 a.m. at UWA’s Bell
Conference Center. Lunch, dinner and a social at the
Spence-Moon House are included in the $15
registration fee. Saturday field trips will explore
remnant Black Land Prairie at the Old Bluffport town
site, Fort Tombecbé and the UWA prairie restoration
site. The $10 cost for Saturday’s tours include
lunch.
