LIVINGSTON,
Ala.--Delta
Chi alumni recently awarded the Matt Byrne Memorial
Scholarship to a pair of University of West Alabama
students. The scholarship, established in 2007,
honors the memory of longtime friend and former
Delta Chi chapter president Matt Byrne.
Friends remember Byrne
as a natural leader, with a zest for life equal to
none. In his honor, the scholarship will be awarded
each year to an incoming freshman who exemplifies
Byrne’s characteristics of leadership, loyalty,
honesty and love of life.
This year’s freshman
recipient is Teresa Booth. A native of Chatom, Booth
graduated from Washington County High School. She is
a member of the Scarlet Band from Tiger Land.
The scholarship
committee also chose a second recipient, Cody Brown
of Stevenson. A junior at UWA, Brown is a student
coach for the Tiger baseball team. He is a graduate
of North Jackson High School.
