LIVINGSTON,
Ala.—The
University of West Alabama Foundation Board of
Directors recently named Gladys M. Mason of Camden,
a 1973 graduate and a member of the board since its
inception, the first Director Emeritus of the
Foundation Board.

Mason has served on the board for 16 years,
including a stint as chairman. In addition to her
duties on the board, she is a charter member of the
Wilcox County Chapter of the UWA National Alumni
Association and past president of the NAA. Mason has
been inducted into the Society of the Golden Key,
the highest honor bestowed upon a UWA graduate. She
is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi, and she received
the 1995 Alumni Loyalty Award from the University.
The Foundation Board of Directors also elected new
officers during its last meeting. Dr. Kenneth Tucker
of Demopolis was named Chairman. The Education and
Training Coordinator for Weyerhaeuser Company’s
Paper and Pulp Group, Tucker replaces Aubrey Ellis.
Hal Bloom Jr. of Montgomery will serve as Vice
Chairman. A 1972 graduate, he is president of the
Bloom Group. Retired UWA faculty member Glen Bridges
of Livingston, a 1951 graduate, will serve as
Treasurer. Vice President of Institutional
Advancement Clemit Spruiell serves as Executive
Secretary.
In addition, four alumni were also elected as new
members of the board. A 1992 graduate, Tommy Bryan
of Livingston is City President of the Livingston
branch of West Alabama Bank and Trust. A member of
the class of 1985, Jody Wise Campbell of Bay Minette
serves as Circuit Clerk of Baldwin County. Andy
Coats, President of Occupational Health Dynamics in
Birmingham, is a 1973 graduate. Dan Young of
Birmingham, a retired pharmaceutical executive, is a
member of the class of 1972.
The UWA Foundation Board of Directors exists to
support the development of educational excellence at
UWA by attracting and involving leaders from among
the University's alumni and friends. The
Foundation's primary efforts are directed toward
attracting, receiving, investing, managing and
expending gifts and other resources designated to
support the programs of the University and to
support the University's service efforts to the West
Alabama area. |
