Brazilian scholar kicks off the 2007 Fulbright Lecture Series

The University of West Alabama kicks off the 2007 Fulbright Lecture Series as the College of Business welcomes Brazilian business scholar Dr. Adalberto A. Fischmann. He is currently serving as Fulbright Scholar-In-Residence at Missouri Southern State University’s School of Business Administration. Fischmann will present, “International competitiveness between America and Brazil,” on Monday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. in the Bell Conference Center.

“We are honored to have Dr. Fischmann on campus as the first Fulbright Scholar in our lecture series this year,” said Dr. David M. Taylor, Provost. “As we approach the institution’s 175th anniversary, we want to celebrate the rich experiences offered at UWA. We are delighted to continue the Fulbright Lecture Series with such a distingued group of scholars and such a variety of interesting topics this spring.”

 

Fischmann has taught at the University of São Paulo for nearly four decades, following post-doctoral work at the Manchester Business School in England. He has published and presented more than 40 papers in the past five years alone, and he has won numerous awards for his economic strategy and teaching style. Fischmann is one of approximately 800 foreign scholars chosen this year to lecture, conduct research and participate in seminars in the United States through the Fulbright Scholars Program.

 

In addition to the evening presentation, Fischmann will also speak to UWA business students during his three-day stay in Livingston.

 

The Fulbright Lecture Series continues Thursday, Feb. 8 with a lecture comparing the American and Chinese educational systems. A scholar from the Ivory Coast comes Thursday, Feb. 22 to discuss the African AIDS epidemic. An Iraqi scholar rounds out this year’s lecture series Thursday, March 15 with a discussion on the social conditions of women in the Middle East.
