Chinese Fulbright Scholar continues UWA lecture series

LIVINGSTON, Ala.--The University of West Alabama continues the 2008 Fulbright Lecture Series as the College of Business welcomes Chinese human resources management scholar Dr. Jianmin “James” Sun, who was chosen to teach this year in the University of Florida’s College of Business. The second of four Fulbright scholars visiting UWA this semester, Sun will present a public lecture, “Chinese culture and the development of China” on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. in UWA’s Bell Conference Center.

Sun serves as professor and associate dean of the School of Labor and Human Resource at Renmin University in Beijing, China. His research focuses on the measurement and assessment of individual characteristics, personality and performance, leadership styles and organizational culture. Sun has also for the past 10 years consulted for numerous Chinese companies, including Motorola, Hewlett-Packard, Smith-Kline & Beecham and many others.

“We are honored to have Dr. Sun on campus as the second Fulbright Scholar in our lecture series this year,” said Dr. David M. Taylor, Provost. “As we approach the institution’s 175th anniversary, we want to celebrate the rich experiences offered at UWA. We are delighted to continue the Fulbright Lecture Series with such a distinguished group of scholars and such a variety of interesting topics this spring.”

Sun, who has served as a visiting scholar at the State University of New York at Buffalo and at several Canadian and Chinese universities, has authored numerous books and research articles during his career. He is one of approximately 800 foreign scholars chosen this year to lecture, conduct research and participate in seminars in the United States through the Fulbright Scholars Program.

The UWA Fulbright Lecture Series will continue this spring with visiting scholars from Argentina and Taiwan. Admission to all Fulbright Lecture Series presentations is free. For more information, please call (205) 652-3892.
