LIVINGSTON,
Ala.--The University of West Alabama continues the
2008 Fulbright Lecture Series as the Julia S.
Tutwiler College of Education welcomes Dr. Shu-Hua
“Sophie” Tang of Taiwan, who was chosen to teach
this year in the University of Connecticut’s
Department of Educational Psychology. The third of
four Fulbright scholars visiting UWA this semester,
Tang will present a public lecture, “Closing the Gap
for Diversity Learners,” on Monday, March 3 at 5:45
p.m. in UWA’s Brock Y-Hall.
Tang serves as professor and director of the
Graduate Institute of Education at National Dong-Hwa
University in Hualien, Taiwan. Her research focuses
on learning psychology, adolescence psychology,
learning motivation and reading therapy. Tang, who
received her doctorate from Syracuse University, has
been honored for her research by the National
Science Council and the American Psychological
Association.
“Hosting the Fulbright Lecture Series at UWA lets us
go beyond our own little corner of the earth but not
physically leave it,” said Mary Pagliero, Fulbright
Lecture Series committee chair. “We are fortunate to
bring to campus scholars from other cultures who
allow us to gain an understanding of the diversity
of cultures and societies in our world.”
Tang has authored numerous books and research
articles during her career. She is one of
approximately 800 foreign scholars chosen this year
to lecture, conduct research and participate in
seminars in the United States through the Fulbright
Scholars Program.
The UWA Fulbright Lecture Series, which earlier
hosted Chinese and Pakistani scholars, will conclude
in April with a visiting scholar from Argentina.
Admission to all Fulbright Lecture Series
presentations is free. For more information, please
