LIVINGSTON,
Ala.--The
University of West Alabama concludes the 2008
Fulbright Lecture Series as the College of Natural
Sciences and Mathematics welcomes Dr. Guillermo
Labadie of Argentina, who was chosen to teach this
year in the University of Mississippi’s School of
Pharmacy. The fourth Fulbright scholar visiting UWA
this semester, Labadie will present a public lecture,
“Argentina: From the conquistadors to today,”
on Tuesday, April 1 at 6 p.m. in UWA’s Brock Y-Hall.
Labadie serves as adjunct researcher in the
Department of Organic Chemistry at the National
University of Rosario in Rosario, Argentina. His
research focuses on bioorganic and medicinal
chemistry. Labadie, who holds a patent for
immobilized proteins, has completed postdoctoral
work at the University of Mississippi and the
University of Utah.
“At UWA, we are fortunate to bring to campus
scholars from other cultures,” said Mary Pagliero,
Fulbright Lecture Series committee chair. “It is
through interaction and the sharing of ideas with
internationals that students, faculty and local
community members have opportunities to develop a
broader perspective and become global citizens.”
Labadie has authored numerous research articles and
presented his work many times during his career. He
is one of approximately 800 foreign scholars chosen
this year to lecture, conduct research and
participate in seminars in the United States through
the Fulbright Scholars Program.
The UWA Fulbright Lecture Series earlier hosted
scholars from China, Pakistan and Taiwan. Admission
to the Fulbright Lecture Series presentation is
