LIVINGSTON,
Ala.—As
part of the University of West Alabama’s 2006
Fulbright Lecture Series, the institution welcomes a
Slovakian scholar to share his knowledge of
philosophy and of the lasting effects of the
Holocaust with the university and surrounding
communities.

Dr. Igor Hanzel |
Dr. Igor Hanzel, a visiting Fulbright Scholar hosted by Loras
College in Dubuque, Iowa, will give a personal
account of how the Holocaust had a lasting effect on
his country and his Slovak Jewish family on
Wednesday, March 15 at 6 p.m. in the Bell Conference
Center. Earlier that same day, he will also present
a lecture entitled "Karl R. Popper's Philosophy of
Science" at 10:10 a.m. in the Bell Conference
Center.
Hanzel, chosen by the College of Business to bring
an international perspective to campus, will mark
the second Fulbright visit to UWA in as many weeks.
A native of the
Slovak Republic, he serves as a Professor
at Comenius University
in
Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science. His
specialties include the philosophy of science and
the philosophy of scoial sciences. Fluent in several
languages, he has published one book and nearly 30
articles. Hanzel is enjoying his second trip to the
United States on a Fulbright scholarship, with his
first sending him to the State University of New
York College at Courtland in 1996.
Two more Fulbright Scholars arrive on campus in April to
complete the lecture series. Dr. Ainur Baisaklov of
Kazakhstan will lecture on African American Blues
and offer a brown bag lunch piano performance in
conjunction with the Sucarnochee Folklife Festival.
Dr. Rude Lui, a Chinese scholar, presents a lecture
on the American educational system. Admission to all
Fulbright Lecture Series presentations is free.
