LIVINGSTON, Ala.--The University of West Alabama has announced the promotion of one of its own as the University’s new Associate Director of Development.

Wesley Gordon

Wesley Gordon will now take on the responsibility of many of the fundraising activities for the 172-year-old Livingston institution. He will assist in the efforts to obtain private funds, including constituency-based major fund raising, annual giving, planned giving, and corporate and foundation support.

Gordon previously served as West Alabama’s Assistant Athletic Director, focusing on academics and game operations and working with the Tiger Club, the University’s athletic booster organization. He took on his new duties in early September.

The Columbus, Miss., native holds a bachelor’s degree in clinical exercise physiology and master’s degree in sport administration, both from Mississippi State University.

“We are pleased that Wes has taken on this new role with the foundation,” said Clemit Spruiell, vice president for institutional advancement. “We are confident that his leadership and work ethic will be important factors as we work to achieve the University’s fundraising goals for “The University We Will Be” campaign and beyond.”

“The University We Will Be” capital campaign is an ongoing effort to raise $15 million in private support for a range of academic enrichment, outreach and construction needs.

The UWA Foundation administers most campus fundraising activities and endowment funds, garnering annual support with gifts from individual donors, corporations, foundations, trusts and estates.
