LIVINGSTON,
Ala.--The University of West Alabama will celebrate
homecoming in Livingston Oct. 22-25, with a variety
of exciting events planned to honor alumni of the
1970s and 1980s.
Homecoming activities begin Wednesday, Oct. 22 at
the annual Serendipity talent show. Students will
compete for prize money and bragging rights in four
categories, and the 2008 homecoming queen, a closely
guarded secret, will also be announced at the show.
Serendipity begins at 7 p.m. in Pruitt Gym.
Admission is free.
On Thursday, Oct. 23, the Scarlet Band from Tiger
Land, UWA cheerleaders, Luie, the Tiger football
team and head coach Bobby Wallace will be on hand
for the homecoming bonfire and pep rally at 8 p.m.
on the Student Union Building lawn. Following the
pep rally, the Department of Student Affairs will
host a party featuring the popular college band
Velcro Pygmies.
The annual UWA alumni party sponsored by the
National Alumni Association is one of the most
anticipated events of the year. The party begins at
6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 at the Spence-Moon House.
Always a great time for friends, food and fun, this
year’s party will feature rock-and-roll band C+.
On Saturday, Oct. 25, homecoming festivities begin
with the College of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Spence-Moon House. A
reception for alumni of the 1970s and 1980s follows
at 9 a.m. in Webb Hall Parlor. The homecoming parade
winds through downtown Livingston at 11 a.m.,
featuring the homecoming court, marching bands and a
variety of floats from campus organizations.
Former UWA track and cross country runners will have
a cookout beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Cross
Country Club House, and the College of Business will
host alumni and friends for a catfish lunch in
Wallace Hall’s Wise Conference Room at noon.
Everyone is then invited to the annual National
Alumni Association meeting and awards presentation
at 1:30 p.m. in the Bell Conference Center. Each
college will honor outstanding graduates, while the
NAA presents other prestigious awards. In addition,
two former Tiger athletes will be inducted into the
UWA Athletic Hall of Fame.
The Office of Admissions will sponsor Preview Day
activities for prospective students, including
campus tours, beginning at 2 p.m. To register for

The College of Liberal Arts alumni and faculty will
gather at 3 p.m. at the Spence-Moon House for a
pre-game tailgate party, while all former Student
Government Association presidents will be honored
with a 3 p.m. reception in the Student Union
Building conference room. The College of Education
and School of Graduate Studies will also be on the
Armory lawn prior to the football game with a
tailgate tent.
The pep rally at 4 p.m. in front of Tiger Stadium
will feature the Scarlet Band from Tiger Land, UWA
cheerleaders and Luie. Tailgating prior to the pep
rally will include friends, food vendors and lots of
Tiger spirit.
West Alabama and the University of West Georgia will
kickoff at 5 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. Pre-game
festivities feature the Scarlet Band from Tiger Land
and the newest Athletic Hall of Fame members serving
as honorary team captains. In addition, the
homecoming court will be presented at halftime, and
the new queen will be crowned.
The UWA Bookstore, the best place to shop for Red
and White gear, will be open Saturday from 10 a.m.
until 5 p.m. in the Student Union Building. All UWA
sportswear will be 15 percent off, and young Tiger
fans will receive free candy and balloons.
