Honors Day set for March 21

March 8, 2007

LIVINGSTON, Ala.—The University of West Alabama will recognize outstanding students for their academic achievements and leadership roles at the institution’s annual Honors Day, scheduled for Wednesday, March 21, 2007. Honorees and their guests will be treated to a noon luncheon at the Bell Conference Center before the Honors Day Convocation in Bibb Graves Auditorium at 2:30 p.m.

Frank Stegall, superintendent of the Hale County School System, will serve as keynote speaker at the Honors Day luncheon. Stegall, who received his master’s degree in education from UWA in 1987, recently received the National Alumni Association’s alumni achievement award from the College of Education.

In addition to recognizing student honorees, the University will induct two former physical education instructors into the Society of the Golden Key. Dr. Hortense Hester and Virginia E. Young, both of Montgomery, began their careers at UWA in the late 1960s, and each retired in 1986 with the distinction of Professor Emeritus. Induction into the Society is the highest honor bestowed upon a UWA graduate or professor.
