LIVINGSTON,
Ala.—The University of West Alabama will recognize outstanding
students for their academic achievements and
leadership roles at the institution’s annual Honors
Day, scheduled for Wednesday, March 21, 2007.
Honorees and their guests will be treated to a noon
luncheon at the Bell Conference Center before the
Honors Day Convocation in Bibb Graves Auditorium at
2:30 p.m.
Frank Stegall, superintendent of the Hale County School
System, will serve as keynote speaker at the Honors
Day luncheon. Stegall, who received his master’s
degree in education from UWA in 1987, recently
received the National Alumni Association’s alumni
achievement award from the College of Education.
In addition to recognizing student honorees, the University
will induct two former physical education
instructors into the Society of the Golden Key. Dr.
Hortense Hester and Virginia E. Young, both of
Montgomery, began their careers at UWA in the late
1960s, and each retired in 1986 with the distinction
of Professor Emeritus. Induction into the Society is
the highest honor bestowed upon a UWA graduate or
professor.
