LIVINGSTON,
Ala.--The University of West Alabama will recognize
outstanding students for their academic achievements
and leadership roles at the institution’s annual
Honors Day, scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, 2008.
Honorees will be treated to a luncheon at the Bell
Conference Center before the Honors Day Convocation
in Bibb Graves Auditorium at 2:30 p.m. Students will be
acknowledged for their honor society memberships,
and several scholarships and special awards will be
presented.
Rep. A. J. McCampbell will serve as keynote speaker
at the Honors Day luncheon. McCampbell represents
Greene, Marengo, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties in
the Alabama House of Representatives.
In addition to recognizing student honorees, the
University will induct two alumni into the Society
of the Golden Key. Induction into the Society is the
highest honor bestowed upon a UWA graduate or
professor.
Jeanette B. Adams of Butler holds three UWA degrees.
The retired Patrician Academy headmaster previously
served on UWA’s faculty, and she is the recipient of
the Julia Tutwiler College of Education Alumni
Achievement Award.
Andrew L. Coats of Birmingham, a 1973 graduate, is
the founder and president of Occupational Health
Dynamics. An adjunct faculty member at both the
Georgia Institute of Technology and the University
of Alabama at Birmingham, Coats received the College
of Liberal Arts Alumni Achievement Award in 2007.
