March 16, 2007

LIVINGSTON, Ala.—More than 40 academically achieving juniors, seniors and graduate students at The University of West Alabama are new members of the university chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor society.

Phi Kappa Phi inducts annually approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni on nearly 300 select college and university campuses in North America and the Philippines. Membership is by invitation only to the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students and 7.5 percent of juniors. Faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction also qualify.

In addition to the students, two faculty members and one staff member were also inducted. They include Dr. Jeff Gentsch of history, Shelia Limerick of the Julia S. Tutwiler Library and Dr. Andrew Rindsberg of environmental science.
