LIVINGSTON, Ala.--The Sucarnochee Revue, the nationally syndicated radio program showcasing Black Belt music to listeners across the nation and the world, returns to The University of West Alabama Friday, Oct. 17 for a live taping of the popular musical variety show.

Sucarnochee Revue producer and host Jacky Jack White

Presenting Black Belt music in its most authentic manner, the Revue features many of the top acts in blues, gospel, bluegrass, country and roots music from the Black Belt region of Mississippi and Alabama, in addition to guests from across the country.

“The show not only preserves original music and the works by original artists, but also captures the evolution of that music and its current generation of performers,” said producer and host Jacky Jack White, whose song “Precious Time,” recorded by Chip Greene, was recently heard on MTV's “Making the Band 4.”

In addition to the Sucarnochee Revue regulars, including White, Mississippi Chris Sharp and the Jangalangs, J. Burton Fuller, Britt Gully and Track 45, several special guests will take the stage in October.

The Alabama Gravy Soppers, a Piedmont-style blues trio, are known for playing unruly 1920s and 1930s string band music, including vaudeville and medicine show tunes, Depression-era blues, old-time country, spirituals and the like.

Davis Raines, a singer-songwriter who records on Nashville’s APS Records, is known for his edgy style of writing. When Raines sings about one of life’s drifters who ran afoul of the law, it’s no pose. He didn’t get around to a music career until his mid-30s, after he decided to leave behind his job as a captain of an Alabama maximum security prison, where, for a time, he was in charge of death row.

As a songwriter, Raines has a cut on Pat Green’s Grammy-nominated album “Wave On Wave,” which was certified Gold. He is now touring in support of his recently released CD, “Going To Montgomery.”

The Sucarnochee Revue can be heard on numerous commercial and public radio stations across the country. The show airs Saturday nights at 10 p.m. on Alabama Public Radio.

The show begins at 7 p.m. in Bibb Graves Auditorium. Tickets are $8 at the door. For more information about the show, contact White at 205-652-6680 or visit www.myspace.com/sucarnocheerevue.
