Presenting Black Belt music in its most authentic
manner, the Revue features many of the top acts in
blues, gospel, bluegrass, country and roots music
from the Black Belt region of Mississippi and
Alabama.
“The show not only preserves original music and the
works by original artists, but also captures the
evolution of that music and its current generation
of performers,” said producer and host Jacky Jack
White.
This month, the Revue welcomes a variety of musical
guests including Billy Ray Reynolds, who performed
with Waylon Jennings and wrote songs for the Allman
Brothers Band, and noted Mississippi playwrights and
songwriters Richelle Putnam and Ralph Gordon.
The show will also feature top Nashville
singer/songwriter/producer Kayce Jones, who has
appeared many times on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie
Home Companion” radio show. Jones, who has produced
artists including Willie Nelson, Dwight Yoakam and
Kinky Friedman, is an entertainer in the tradition
of musical humorists such as Roger Miller, Mae West
and Tom Lehrer. She is also the Official Songstress
for The Sweet Potato Queens.
“I enjoy singing a good ballad. That’s why I
recorded the tribute to Mickey Newbury. I love to
see people laugh so hard at my funny songs that
tears run down their cheeks. I also love to see
their eyes well up when I sing a ballad that reminds
them of someone or something they’ve lost,” Jones
said. “Tears of laughter, tears of sorrow, they’re
all good. They let us know we’re alive, and it let’s
me know I’ve connected. If that sounds a bit
schizophrenic then welcome to my world.”
As always, the Sucarnochee Revue regulars, including
Jacky Jack White, Mississippi Chris Sharp and the
Jangalangs, J. Burton Fuller, Britt Gully and Track
45, will also perform.
The Sucarnochee Revue can be heard on numerous
commercial and public radio stations across the
country. The show airs Saturday nights at 10 p.m. on
Alabama Public Radio.
Tickets are $8 at the door. For more information
