UWA helping Hurricane Katrina refugees
             

 

 

 

 

Gaylena Crager, a junior from Silas, AL, sorts through donated clothes in preparation for their distribution to the Hurricane Katrina evacuees. UWA and the local community have provided for the needs of our neighbors from Louisiana and Mississippi.

 

 

 

 

 

Carole Welborn, Wellness Center Coordinator, has taken control of the shelter since people began arriving on Sunday, August 28. She now coordinates meals, donations and much more for the shelter's residents.

 

 

Volunteers put together a donated crib for 4-month-old Linda. After sleeping with her mother on a cot for several nights, now both Linda and her mom can rest more comfortably.

 

 

Men from the shelter and the community pitched in to unload a truck full of paper products Thursday. It takes a lot to supply the needs of the over 130 people living in the SUB.

 

 

 

Citronelle sophomore Shanna Kernells repairs the shoe of young resident Patience while others are glued to the bank of televisions to watch news from home.
