LIVINGSTON,
Ala.--The
University of West Alabama’s “The University We Will
Be” campaign has surpassed $5 million in outright
gifts and pledges, thanks to the generosity of
numerous individuals, corporations and foundations.
“The University We Will Be,” an ongoing initiative
to raise $15 million in gifts and pledges by 2011,
is UWA’s first comprehensive fund-raising campaign.
These funds will improve campus facilities, provide
additional scholarships, enhance the campus learning
environment, support the faculty and fund community
outreach projects.
“The University is so appreciative of those who have
helped us reach this milestone in our fund-raising
efforts,” said President Richard D. Holland. “So
far, we have endowed scholarships, renovated
facilities, funded new campus initiatives, supported
our athletic programs and more. With the recent
budget cuts, UWA values theses private contributions
more than ever.”
Clemit Spruiell, vice president of institutional
advancement, says he is pleased with campaign’s
progress so far, and he is optimistic the
173-year-old institution will surpass its goal.
“I challenge our alumni and friends to look at the
importance of UWA in their lives and think about
what they can do to give back to the University as
we continue to excel and to enhance the
institution,” Spruiell said. “UWA has reconnected
with so many old friends through our efforts, and we
are excited about the possibilities these
relationships and the funds raised hold for our
great university.”
The campaign outlines specific priority projects as
well as numerous naming opportunities throughout the
campus. Donors may support the University through
annual or multi-year cash gifts, securities, real
estate, personal property or planned giving.
In addition, UWA recently established the Richard
and Rebecca Holland Legacy Society, in conjunction
with the campaign, to recognize and honor donors who
have named UWA as a beneficiary in their estate
plans.
“UWA benefits from financial contributions at all
levels,” Spruiell said. “We look forward to
continuing our current success with the help of our
loyal graduates, employees and friends.”
UWA Foundation staff members are always available to
provide assistance in exploring giving
opportunities. For more information about “The
