UPWARD BOUND--Dr.
Alan Brown and Upward Bound summer scholars Teyona
Bias, a junior at Livingston High School, and
DeMarcus Miller,a junior at Sumter County High
School, recently attended Faulkner University's
Dinner Theatre presentation of Animal Farm
with other members of the group. The students
also toured AUM while in Montgomery. Upward Bound is
a federally funded academic enrichment program
hosted by UWA that serves 78 high school students
from 8 high schools in Sumter, Greene, and Marengo
counties. The primary mission of Upward Bound is to
promote academic excellence in high school as a
means of ensuring enrollment in the college or
university of the UB participants' choice and,
ultimately, the completion of a college degree. (October
