LIVINGSTON,
Ala.--The University of West Alabama in Livingston,
Ala., recently established the Central Florida
chapter of its National Alumni Association in
Tampa/St. Petersburg with a July meeting held at the
St. Petersburg Pier. Nearly 30 UWA alumni and guests
attended to approve the chapter charter, making the
Central Florida chapter the first chartered alumni
group outside of Alabama.
Newly elected chapter officers include:
President, Jason Overstreet (’99), Vice President,
Lisa Tsotsos (’86), Secretary, Sabrina Watford (’88)
and Treasurer, Seth Jackson (’99). The officers and
chapter members hope to hold a deep sea fishing
tournament to raise scholarship money for a
Tampa-area student to attend UWA.
"I am very excited about the work this group is
doing in Central Florida," said UWA Director of
Alumni Affairs Rob McInturf. "I look forward to
helping the chapter grow and award UWA scholarships
to local students."
The group plans to hold its next meeting Oct. 29
in conjunction with the televised UWA-Henderson
State University football game, which will be
available on CSS, Cox and other area cable systems.
Founded in 1835, the University of West Alabama
is one of the oldest universities in Alabama. UWA
serves the west central Alabama area and
beyond through educational opportunity, academic
research and public outreach.
