Sucarnochee Folklife Festival Days planned in Livingston--The fifth annual Sucarnochee Folklife Festival and the first Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned Sucarnochee BBQ & Blues Cook-off are set for April 18-19 in Livingston, Ala., proclaimed as Sucarnochee Folklife Festival Days in Alabama by Gov. Bob Riley. A variety of other events planned throughout the week help celebrate Black Belt regional culture. Read more and see schedule of events
 
Gov. Riley proclaims Sucarnochee BBQ & Blues Cook-off a state championship event--Gov. Bob Riley last week signed a proclamation declaring the Sucarnochee BBQ & Blues Cook-off a state championship event. Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the inaugural event takes places at The University of West Alabama in Livingston on April 18-19, proclaimed as Sucarnochee Folklife Festival Days in Alabama by the governor. UWA welcomes Tony Grooms for lunch presentation--Tony Grooms will be on the University of West Alabama campus on Wednesday, April 16 for a luncheon presentation at noon in the Bell Conference Center. The Black Belt Symposium on Literature is open to the public. UWA students are admitted free. Admission is $5 for other guests to cover the cost of lunch. Read more
 
  
UWA wins a pair to close out Crossover--The UWA softball team closed out the 2008 Gulf South Conference Crossover with a pair of wins over GSC West foes Arkansas Tech and Ouachita Baptist. The Tigers staved off the Golden Suns 3-2 in the morning game and ousted OBU 8-3 in the afternoon session. UWA finished the weekend 3-3 at the GSC event. Read more
 
UWA netters split with Mississippi College--The University of West Alabama tennis teams split with Mississippi College on Saturday on the MC campus. The UWA women claimed a 6-3 win while the Tigers fell 6-3 in the men’s match. Read more
 

 


 

Dill receives third Pitcher of the Week honor from GSC--University of West Alabama pitcher Brandon Dill was named Gulf South Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Read more
 
Poole and Robinson lead Wranglers at UTM--The University of West Alabama wranglers competed in the 40th University of Tennessee at Martin spring college rodeo this weekend at the Ned Ray McWherter Agricultural Complex with the men finishing sixth. Read more

 
  
UWA/Coca-Cola Golf Tournament for Academic Excellence--The annual two-person scramble is set for Saturday, May 10 with a  9 a.m. tee time at the Livingston County Club. $150 per team includes lunch. First prize-Nike drivers, Second prize-Nike shoes. Space is limited to 32 teams.     • The Sucarnochee Revue radio show. 7 p.m. in Bibb Graves Auditorium. $5 admission.
  • April 19--Sucarnochee Folklife Festival. Featuring Sucarnochee 5K River Run, Cornbread Cook-off, live music, artists and folk craft demonstrators, storytelling, ghost tour and more. Courthouse Square in Livingston. For more information, please call 205-652-3752.
    • Sucarnochee BBQ & Blues Cook-off. Judging begins at noon. Award presentation at 3 p.m. at the UWA intramural fields.

  • April 21-22--Gulf South Conference Tennis Tournament. Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
  • April 23--Baseball doubleheader against Stillman. 6 p.m. at Tartt Field.
  • April 26--Softball doubleheader against North Alabama. 5 p.m. at the Softball Complex.
  • April 27--Softball doubleheader against Alabama-Huntsville. 3 p.m. at the Softball Complex.
