UWA hosts Sucarnochee Folklife Festival, BBQ & Blues Cook-off--Join us in Livingston April 18 and 19 for the fifth annual Sucarnochee Folklife Festival and the first Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned BBQ & Blues Cook-off. Read more
 
Stone to lead UWA alumni affairs--The University of West Alabama welcomes TyAnne Smith Stone, UWA alumna and former National Alumni Association president, as the new director of alumni relations. Stone, a Choctaw County native, returns to her alma mater after working with the Alabama Department of Human Resources for many years. Read more
 
UWA inducts two alumni into the Society of the Golden Key--The University of West Alabama recently inducted two distinguished alumni, Jeanette B. Adams of Butler and Andrew L. Coats of Birmingham, into the Society of the Golden Key at its annual Honors Day Convocation. Induction into the society, founded in 1963, is the highest honor bestowed upon a UWA graduate or faculty member. Read more
 

UWA professor to participate in European art program--A University of West Alabama art professor will spend her summer as an artist-in-residence at one of the top ceramic art centers in Europe. Read more

 
The Sucarnochee Revue tapes 40th radio show--The Sucarnochee Revue, the nationally syndicated radio program that showcases Black Belt music to listeners across the nation and the world, returns to The University of West Alabama on April 18 for the 40th taping of the popular musical variety show. The live taping begins at 7 p.m. in Bibb Graves Auditorium. Read more
 
Annual Cornbread Cook-off draws iron skillet chefs--Cornbread chefs, get your iron skillets ready and bring your winning recipes to the Sucarnochee Folklife Festival Cornbread Cook-off on Saturday, April 19 in downtown Livingston. Read more
 
  
Nathan Baker named head volleyball coach at UWA--The University of West Alabama Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Nathan Baker as the 13th head coach in Tiger volleyball history. Baker comes to Livingston after serving as head volleyball coach at Tusculum College in Greenville, Tenn. from 2006 -2007. He is a native of Phil Campbell, Ala. Read more
 

 

#3 Tigers swept at Valdosta State--The third-ranked UWA baseball team looked to avoid the three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon from Valdosta State, but a ninth inning rally fell short, as the Tigers (29-8, 5-4 GSC) fell 8-7 at Billy Grant Field. The Tigers had not been swept since April 2005, when the Red and White dropped the series at North Alabama. Read more
 
Wranglers compete at Boll Weevil Stampede Rodeo--The University of West Alabama wranglers returned to action this weekend, as they took part in the Boll Weevil Stampede Rodeo at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The women finished fourth while the men finished in eighth. Read more
 
UNA sweeps Tigers in GSC East twinbill--The UWA softball team closed out its spring break road trip with a pair of Gulf South Conference setbacks to in-state rival North Alabama on Sunday. The Lions of UNA topped the Tigers 8-2 in the opener and turned back UWA 6-4 in the finale. Read more

 
UWA tennis falls to nationally ranked BYU Hawaii; earn regional marks--The UWA tennis teams dropped matches to nationally ranked BYU in Hawai'i on Monday in Mobile, Ala. BYUH, the nation’s top-ranked team in NCAA Division II tennis, blanked the Tiger women 9-0 while the No. 25 Seasiders topped UWA 7-2 in the men’s match. Read more
 
  
Mobile County chapter dinner planned for April 1--The Mobile County Alumni Chapter will hold its annual spring dinner meeting Tuesday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Gordon Oaks at Knollwood. UWA Board of Trustees President Margaret Lovett will serve as guest speaker. Tickets are $8 per person. Proceeds fund alumni scholarships for Mobile County students. Mobile County chapter sponsors golf tourney--The Mobile County Alumni Chapter will host a golf tournament to fund alumni scholarships for Mobile County students. The tournament is set for Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m. at the Spring Hill Golf Course.
