Rep. Davis kicks off school year--U.S. Rep. Artur Davis, who represents Alabama's 7th Congressional District, was on hand Monday to serve as the first guest lecturer for the Natural History of the Black Belt biology course. Davis, who is serving his third term in the House, also hosted a town hall meeting in the Bell Conference Center that evening to hear concerns from his Sumter County constitutes. UWA's Webb Hall is home to one of Davis' congressional offices. 
 
The Sucarnochee Revue returns Aug. 24.--The nationally syndicated radio program, The Sucarnochee Revue, takes the stage Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. for a live taping in The University of West Alabama’s Bibb Graves Auditorium. Read more
 
New book remembers late English professor--A Lively Mind: The Story of Lynn Arthur Smith, A Gifted Teacher by Sumter County native and former UWA Vice President for University Relations John Neel remembers the longtime English professor and Pi Kappa Phi fraternity advisor. Read more
 
  
UWA football holds 2007 Media Day--The University of West Alabama football team held its 2007 media day in the Tiger Room on the Livingston campus Monday afternoon, providing media from around the state of Alabama and in eastern Mississippi the opportunity to visit with UWA head coach Bobby Wallace, his staff and players. Former Tiger named head coach of AFL's Arizona Rattlers--Former West Alabama football standout Kevin Guy has been named the new head coach of the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League. Guy has signed a multi-year deal to lead all aspects of the team’s Football Operations Department. Read more
 
  
National Alumni Association hosts tailgate at Samford--The Greater Birmingham Area alumni chapter will host a pre-game tailgate beginning at 3:30 p.m. prior to the Thursday, Aug. 30 season-opening Samford University match up. Join us for Full Moon Barbecue at the UWA tent on the Divinity School lawn next to the visitor's side of the stadium. The Tigers kickoff at 7 p.m. at Seibert Stadium on the Samford campus. Sumter County chapter tailgate planned for Sept. 8--The Sumter County alumni chapter will host a tailgate prior to the first home football game against Concordia on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the President's Home.   • Aug. 29--Pep rally featuring Coach Bobby Wallace and the Tigers, The Scarlet Band from Tigerland, UWA cheerleaders and Luie. 7 p.m. at Pruitt Gym.  
  • Aug. 30--UWA vs. Samford University. Kickoff at 7 p.m. at Seibert Stadium in Birmingham. Pre-game tailgate hosted by the UWA National Alumni Association begins at 3:30 p.m. next to the stadium.   • Sept. 3--University closed for Labor Day holiday.
  • Sept. 4--Sumter County Fine Arts Council presents "Jazz Comes Home." 7:30 p.m. in Bibb Graves Auditorium. Tickets are $7 for adults and $2 for students. All SCFAC members and UWA students admitted free. For more information about the SCFAC, click here.
  • Sept. 8--Sumter County alumni chapter tailgate. 5-6:30 p.m. at the President's Home. Tigers kickoff against Concordia College at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
  • Sept. 10--Board of trustees meeting. 10 a.m. in the Bell Conference Center.
    • Reception honoring Trustees Emeriti. 2-3 p.m. in Webb Hall Parlor.
