Miss UWA 2007--Junior
Stacy Holman of Gordo is the new Miss University of
West Alabama. Holman, an education major and a UWA
majorette, will represent the 172-year-old
institution in the 2007 Miss Alabama Pageant this
summer in Birmingham. Alternates also selected Feb.

African Fulbright Scholar comes to UWA--Continuing
the 2007 Fulbright Lecture Series, UWA welcomes Dr.
Timothée Dieudonné Ouassa, visiting Fulbright
Scholar from the Ivory Coast. He will offer the
audience insights into life in his country on
Thursday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. in the Bell Conference
Center with a lecture entitled "Ivory Coast:
geographical, cultural and political aspects."

UWA and IRS offer free tax assistance--UWA and the Greene/Sumter
Enterprise Community, Inc., are offering free income
tax help through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Program (VITA), sponsored by the IRS. Through this
program, UWA students and faculty will interview
clients and prepare individual state and federal
income tax returns.

UWA students prove education has no borders--A
conversation with the managing director of CNN.
Another conversation with a sheik. Lively debates
with like-minded scholars. And a camel
ride. Three members of the University of West Alabama
community will have the chance to experience this
and more when they attend an international education
conference Feb. 25-27 in Abu Dhabi, which is located
in the United Arab Emirates.

| UWA provides interns for local historic
sites--At
a time when funding for paid staff in many Alabama
historical sites is dwindling, The University of
West Alabama’s Department of History has teamed up
with the Alabama Historical Commission and UWA’s
Center for the Study of the Black Belt to offer
internships in historic preservation.

takes series against North Georgia--The
University of West Alabama scored two runs early in
the contest and held off North Georgia, 2-1, to
claim the series, two games to one, at Tartt Field
Sunday afternoon.

falls in doubleheader to OBU--The
University of West Alabama softball team had six
hits in the first game and three in the second, but
it wasn’t enough as Ouachita Baptist swept the
Tigers, 5-1 and 5-1 during the final day of the West
Alabama Invitational.
