UWA
hosts Super Tiger Day on March 1--The
University of West Alabama will celebrate the second
annual Super Tiger Day on Saturday, March 1 on the
UWA campus. Six Tiger athletic teams will be
competing that day, with Gulf South Conference
action on the diamond and the hardwood.

UWA launches new
emergency alert system--As
part of the continuing emergency response efforts
initiated by The University of West Alabama, the
University is announcing the use of a new,
state-of-the-art rapid alert and notification system
named SchoolCast. This system will help ensure the
safety of UWA students and staff using the most
advanced express communication program available for
schools, said UWA President Richard D. Holland.

UWA Fulbright Lecture Series
welcomes Taiwanese scholar--The
University of West Alabama continues the 2008
Fulbright Lecture Series as the Julia S. Tutwiler
College of Education welcomes Dr. Shu-Hua “Sophie”
Tang of Taiwan, who was chosen to teach this year in
the University of Connecticut’s Department of
Educational Psychology. The third of four Fulbright
scholars visiting UWA this semester, Tang will
present a public lecture, “Closing the Gap for
Diversity Learners,” on Monday, March 3 at 5:45 p.m.
in UWA’s Brock Y-Hall.

grant--The
University of West Alabama's Julia S. Tutwiler
College of Education recently received a $120,000
grant from the Daniel Foundation of Alabama in
support of the University’s Partnership Schools

Calling all teams: Sucarnochee BBQ & Blues
Cook-off set for April 18-19--The
University of West Alabama will host the first
Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned Sucarnochee
BBQ & Blues Cook-off on April 18-19 in Livingston,
in conjunction with the fifth annual Sucarnochee
Folklife Festival.

Diamond Tigers sweep Arkansas Tech--The
12th-ranked University of West Alabama baseball team
completed the sweep of Arkansas Tech on Sunday
afternoon, turning back the Wonder Boys (8-6) 12-1
at Tartt Field. The sweep was the first since the
Tigers (12-3) opened the season taking three from
Columbus State.

UWA
tennis continues hot start--The
UWA netters each picked up two wins on Saturday, as
the men continued its string of consecutive wins,
seven, with a 5-4 victory against Georgia
Southwestern and 9-0 win over Fort Valley State. The
UWA women also improved its record, winning their
fifth-straight with a 5-4 win also over the
Hurricanes and then a 9-0 sweep of FVSU.

travels to West Florida for road finale--The
UWA women’s basketball team returns to action on
Monday, Feb. 25, as the Tigers (11-14, 6-4 Gulf
South Conference) tangle with West Florida in a GSC
East action. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. The game
will be carried on Y-104.9-FM and will be available
on live stats at
athletics.uwa.edu.

University of West Alabama men’s basketball team
will take on West Florida in Pensacola tonight in a
key GSC tilt in determining postseason fate for both
squads.

falls twice on Sunday at UAH Chillout--The
University of West Alabama softball team finished
the UAH Charger Chillout with two setbacks on
Sunday, falling 2-1 to Kentucky Wesleyan and
suffering a 6-2 loss in the finale against Southern
