Association of Collegiate Business Schools and
Programs announced that The University of West
Alabama was awarded reaffirmation of accreditation
of their business school by the ACBSP
Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of

UWA establishes Holland Legacy Society--In
conjunction with “The University We Will Be”
campaign, The University of West Alabama recently
established the Richard and Rebecca Holland Legacy
Society to recognize and honor generous donors who,
like the presidential couple, have named UWA as a
beneficiary in their estate plans.

UWA and UA honors students make a difference in the
Black Belt--Honors
program students from The University of West Alabama
and the University of Alabama came together in May
for the second Black Belt Action collaboration, an
action-oriented service-learning experience
involving educational and cultural opportunities and
improvement projects at York West End Junior High
School.

UWA dean attends World Congress on Civic Education--Dr.
Louis Smith, The University of West Alabama’s dean
of online programs, will travel to Morocco at the
end of May to take part in the Twelfth World
Congress on Civic Education. Educators representing
more than 65 countries and 30 U.S. states will meet
in Casablanca and Ifrane to share ideas and best
practices in securing the sustained commitment of
educators, policymakers and civil society to civic
education programs around the world.

Tucker selected as Alabama Quality Award examiner--Dr.
Ken Tucker, dean of The University of West Alabama
College of Business, was recently selected to serve
on the 2008 Alabama Quality Award Board of
Examiners. One of 35 examiners chosen statewide,
Tucker will work with a team of business leaders and
quality professionals over the next five months to
evaluate Alabama organizations based on their
innovations in production, service or management
that have resulted in increased productivity and
quality.

wraps up season in 9-7 loss to DSU--The
16th-ranked University of West Alabama
baseball team concluded its season in a 9-7 loss to
top seeded Delta State at Dave “Boo” Ferriss Field.
The Tigers (45-13) wrap up the season tying the
school record for wins.

Dill earn All-American honors--Rob
Dahlberg and Brandon Dill continue to earn post
season baseball laurels for the University of West
Alabama, as the pair was named to the
Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association
All-American Third Team.

hoops inks five for 2008-09 season--West
Alabama head women’s basketball coach Amanda Marks
announces the signing of five student-athletes.
Jessie Clark, Erin Courington, Sarah Caufield,
Brantli Nichols and Keiara Middleton will join UWA
for the 2008-09 season.

softball to host camp--The
University of West Alabama will host a fastpitch
softball camp on June 16-19 at the UWA Softball
Complex for girls ages 5-18. UWA head coach Will
Atkinson and his staff will direct the camp on the
Livingston campus.

Baldwin County Chapter of the National Alumni
Association will hold an organizational meeting
Tuesday, July 1 at 6 p.m. at David's Catfish in
Spanish Fort. Dr. Richard Holland will serve as

| UWA grad earns national recognition for
science education--A University
of West Alabama graduate was recently honored as one
of only 99 teachers nationwide to earn the highest
recognition for K-12 mathematics and science
teachers in the United States. Ashley G. Allen, a
1992 and 1994 biology graduate, received the
Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and
Science Teaching, which exemplifies the highest
standards of mathematics and science education.
