UWA graduates and faculty honored at commencement--The
University of West Alabama honored approximately 300
graduates during spring commencement exercises May
3. In addition, several special awards were
presented to students, faculty and friends of UWA.

UWA awards prestigious
scholarships for math and science education majors--The
University of West Alabama, in conjunction with the
Daniel Foundation of Alabama, recently awarded
$40,000 full scholarships to three incoming freshmen
who aspire to teach mathematics or science secondary
education. The recipients, selected from high
schools represented in the Julia S. Tutwiler College
of Education’s Partnership Schools Program, will
return to teach one of these in-demand subjects in
their public school system for at least three years
following graduation.

UWA announces nursing awards--Several
graduates of the University of West Alabama’s Ira D.
Pruitt Division of Nursing were honored with special
awards during the recent nursing convocation held
annually in Bibb Graves Auditorium prior to
commencement.

third in South Central Regional--The
13th-ranked University of West Alabama
baseball team has received an at-large bid to the
2008 NCAA Division II South Central Regional May
15-18 in Cleveland, Miss. at Dave “Boo” Ferriss
Field.

Dahlberg
headlines school and conference best 12 All-GSC
honors--The UWA baseball team placed 12 student-athletes on the
2008 All-Gulf South Conference teams, including GSC
East Division Player of the Year Rob Dahlberg. The
12 is the most in school and conference history by
one team in a single season.

softball places seven on All-GSC teams--The
University of West Alabama softball team was well
represented on the 2008 All-Gulf South Conference
Softball East Division Team, placing three on the
All-GSC First Team and four on the Second Team.

Wranglers qualify for CNFR--The
University of West Alabama wranglers competed in the
North Arkansas College rodeo, where the women placed
second with 382.5 points with Natasha Parker and
Cristi Heisman qualifying for the College National
Finals Rodeo.

| Choctaw County alumni meeting--The
Choctaw County Chapter of the National Alumni
Association will hold its annual spring meeting
and silent auction Wednesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at Bama Crawfish in
downtown Butler. Proceeds from the event will help fund
scholarships for Choctaw County students to attend

| Wilcox County alumni fish fry--The
Wilcox County Chapter of the National Alumni
Association will hold its annual fish fry Saturday,
May 17 at noon at Bridgeport State Park in Camden. Proceeds from the event
will help fund scholarships for Wilcox County
students to attend UWA. For
