Audrey McClendon
named Homecoming Queen--Audrey
McClendon, a senior from Greensboro, was crowned
Homecoming Queen during UWA's win over Webber
International. She is a senior majoring in business
administration with an emphasis in marketing.
McClendon serves as captain of the cheerleading
squad, a resident assistant and a Campus Activities
Board director. She is also an Orientation Leader
and a member of Blue Key and Omicron Delta Kappa
honor societies. She is the daughter of Timmy and
Beth McClendon. |

| Ghost hunters search for spooks at UWA--Ready
for a little Halloween fun? Then head to Livingston,
Ala., Oct. 30 to discover the ghost tales of this
small Sumter County town. The University of West
Alabama is sponsoring a walking ghost tour led by
Dr. Alan Brown, English professor and author of
numerous books on Southern ghost lore. In addition,
Orbservations, a ghost hunting group from Meridian,
Miss., will spend the night in the reportedly
haunted Julia Tutwiler Library hoping to detect
supernatural activity. Morning show personalities
from two Meridian radio stations will join them,
broadcasting live from UWA Halloween morning.

Charles Loveless Collection in Literature
dedicated--The University of West
Alabama formally dedicated the Charles F. Loveless
Collection in Literature at the Julia Tutwiler
Library on Homecoming. The collection, a gift from
alumnus Joseph Musso of Birmingham, is named in
memory of long-time English professor Charlie
Loveless, who taught English composition and
literature at UWA for 25 years.

| Annual Water Festival makes a splash with
area 4th graders--The University
of West Alabama will host approximately 650 fourth
graders on Tuesday, Oct. 24 for the fourth annual
Sumter/Marengo Water Festival. The students will
participate in classroom sessions and hands-on
activities focusing on the importance of water to
all life.

UWA hosts fossil workshop for teachers--UWA
and the Alabama Geological Survey will host a
one-day paleontology workshop, providing teachers of
every grade level the opportunity to visit several
sites and collect fossils to take back to their
classrooms. “Fossils of the Black Belt,” a hands-on
field workshop, takes place Oct. 24.

Sucarnochee Revue returns Friday, October 20 at 7
p.m., featuring ten acts for the second show of the
2006 season at UWA's Bibb Graves Auditorium.

UWA
wins homecoming, beats West Georgia--The
Tiger football team picked up its fourth and fifth
victories of the season, as the Tigers defeated
Webber International for Homecoming and dropped West
Georgia 24-14 Thursday evening at Tiger Stadium.

Volleyball splits with Southern Arkansas--The
UWA volleyball team split matches against Southern
Arkansas this past weekend, losing 3-1 on Friday
night to the Muleriders, but picking up a 3-0
victory Saturday.

Cross country runners record personal bests--The
University of West Alabama cross country teams took
a giant step forward with their performances in the
Memphis Twilight Classic.

Pair
of Tiger greats added to Hall of Fame--The
University of West Alabama athletic department added
two new inductees into its Athletic Hall of Fame
during the Homecoming celebration at the
institution. Bob Riesener, former UWA head baseball
coach, and Johnny Montgomery, former track athlete
for the Tigers, were inducted into the 2006-07
class.

Tigers invite all service men and women to
Veteran's Day game against UNA--The
UWA Tigers final home football game of the season
takes place Nov. 11, which is Veteran’s Day. To show
appreciation for all of our service men and women
and all they do for our country, UWA Football would
like to welcome all veterans to the game versus
North Alabama and provide complimentary admission
for all current and former military personnel.
Please join us Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. at Tiger Stadium
for our football game versus North Alabama. We would

National Alumni Association awards
presented--The University of West
Alabama and the UWA National Alumni Association
presented several Alumni Achievement Awards as part
of the recent Homecoming celebration at the
institution. Established in 1994, these awards
recognize outstanding alumni from each UWA college
or division and organizations that make valuable
contributions to the West Alabama community.
