Thanks
from UWA--The
University of West Alabama thanked 1975 graduate and
UWA trustee Alex Saad (center) during a recent UWA
football game for his generous contribution to the
Ira D. Pruitt Division of Nursing. Through his gift
to The University We Will Be capital
campaign, the Dorothy Sturges Saad Nursing Wing in
Brock Hall was named in honor of his mother, a
member of the Alabama Nursing Hall of Fame. Saad
also endowed the Dorothy S. Saad Nursing Scholarship
and the John E. Saad Scholarship for the College of
Business. Presenting Saad with a framed citation are
Clemit Spruiell, vice president of institutional
advancement, and UWA president Richard Holland.

UWA leading efforts to gain national recognition
for the Black Belt--The
University of West Alabama’s Center for the Study of
the Black Belt, founded in 2005, has taken on the
central role in an effort to bring national
recognition to Alabama’s Black Belt region.

Black Belt Garden promotes breast cancer
awareness--In
honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month,
UWA’s Black Belt Garden will dedicate a handmade
mosaic bird bath, created in honor of breast cancer
patients, at an outdoor ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 30 at
2 p.m. The bird bath will be placed in the Pink
Garden section of the Black Belt Garden, the South’s
only garden devoted to celebrating the flora of this
region by showcasing native plants unique to our
area.

UWA hosting free workplace safety seminar--The
University of West Alabama’s Division of Outreach
Services will host a free half-day workplace safety
seminar Thursday, Nov. 15, teaching the newly
revised American Red Cross techniques for first aid,
CPR and automated external defibrillator programs.

Colquitt faculty colloquium planned for Nov. 7--Two
members of The University of West Alabama faculty
will present diverse lectures as part of the James
E. Colquitt Faculty Colloquium, co-sponsored by Phi
Kappa Phi honor society, Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
at the Callaway Schoolhouse, with a reception
following at the Spence-Moon House.

spoil Tigers home finale--The
University of West Alabama volleyball team dropped a
3-0 decision to the University of West Georgia on
Senior Night at Pruitt Hall on the UWA campus.

fall to UAM, 44-36--A valiant
fourth quarter charge by the West Alabama Tigers
came up short in a 44-36 setback to the University
of Arkansas at Monticello on Thursday night at Tiger
