UWA honors former trustees--The
University of West Alabama honored six former
trustees upon their appointment as Trustees Emeriti
with a reception Sept. 10. Former UWA president Dr.
Asa Green, left, is shown with Billy F. Hall,
1973-87; Joseph C. McCorquodale Jr., 1971-91; Robert
Hugh Edmonds, 1971-87; Leigh Pegues, 1979-91; I.
Drayton Pruitt Jr., 1979-99. Winton E. Wise, not
pictured, also received the honor for his service
from 1967-91. The former trustees received the
designation in acknowledgement of their
distinguished service to the institution. |

UWA boasts 5th year of record enrollment--The
University of West Alabama for the fifth consecutive
year posts record enrollment, with a total of 4,157
on-campus and online students taking classes at the
institution this fall, according to UWA registrar
Clarence Egbert.

Revue, takes the stage Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
for a live taping in The University of West
Alabama’s Bibb Graves Auditorium.

UWA
moves to 14-0, downs SAU 3-0--The
University of West Alabama volleyball team moved to
14-0 on the season after sweeping Southern Arkansas
3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 30-17) Saturday afternoon at
Pruitt Hall. UWA also claimed Friday’s match over
SAU to complete the weekend sweep.

drop GSC opener to SAU--The
University of West Alabama dropped its Gulf South
Conference opener 31-17 to Southern Arkansas
University Saturday night at Wilkins Stadium on the
SAU campus.

Cross
Country posts strong showing at Crimson Classic--The
UWA cross country team took part
in the running of the Crimson Classic Invitational. The UWA men
were led by Jonathan Sellers, in 47th,
with a time of 27:47.84, as the Tiger women were
paced by Amanda Fuentes with a time of 21:09.55 in
57th.

McCarter
announces additions to 2007-08 roster--First-year
head men’s basketball coach Eddie McCarter announced
ten newcomers to the University of West Alabama
basketball program on Friday.

UWA-N.C. Central football game cancelled--The
University of West Alabama Department of Athletics
has announced the cancellation of the Tigers’
football game vs. North Carolina Central University
at Legion Field in Birmingham on October 6th.
This cancellation is the result of a breach in the
game contract by the Varsity Sports Marketing Group,
the game’s promoter.

| National Alumni Association hosts several
events Sept. 29--The NAA will
host three events on Saturday, Sept. 29 prior to the
UWA vs. Harding football game at 7 p.m. at Tiger
Stadium. A reunion of friends from the early '70s
will enjoy lunch at the Bell Conference Center at noon. The
1970 College World Series baseball team will get
together from 3-5 p.m. at the Student Union
Building, and the team will receive
recognition during halftime of the football game.
Also, the Tuscaloosa County alumni chapter is
invited to tailgate at the President's Home from
5-6:30 p.m. For more information about any of these

| Mobile County chapter dinner planned for Oct.
2--The
Mobile County alumni chapter will hold its annual
fall dinner meeting Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at
Gordon Oaks at Knollwood. UWA band director Glen
Smith will serve as the guest speaker. Tickets are
$8 per person, with proceeds funding alumni
scholarships for Mobile County students. For more

| Sumter County chapter sponsors West Georgia
bus trip--The Sumter County
alumni chapter will sponsor a chartered bus to
Carrollton, Ga. for the Oct. 13 football game
against West Georgia. The $100 per person fee
includes roundtrip bus ride, pre-game meal and
football game ticket. Proceeds from the trip
will fund alumni scholarships for Sumter County
