UWA again boasts record enrollment--The University of West Alabama again posts record enrollment, with a total of 3,633 on-campus and online students taking classes at the institution this fall. Read more
 
UWA receives nearly $500,000 for community outreach projects--The University of West Alabama this week received a $493,614 federal grant from the Department of Justice to enhance its community outreach and partnership activities in Sumter County. Read more
 
Campus remembers 9/11--Corporal James Holcombe, a UWA student who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, presented the University with an American flag flown over a free Iraq on September 11, 2005. President Richard Holland accepted the flag, which will be displayed prominently on the campus, during last Monday's board of trustees meeting on the fifth anniversary of the World Trade Center attack. Division of Continuing Education offers new opportunities--UWA’s Division of Continuing Education, which offers a variety personal and professional development courses, hosts the 2007 Tour of Greece and a real estate sales course. Read more
 
Sucarnochee Revue to feature Sumter County acts--The Sucarnochee Revue returns for another season on the stage of the UWA's Bibb Graves Auditorium on Friday, September 22 at 7 p.m. This nationally syndicated radio program introduces radio listeners in Alabama, Mississippi, and importantly, other parts of the nation and world to the artistic community of performers from the Black Belt area. UWA receives Alabama Arts Council grant--UWA recently hosted the Alabama State Council on the Arts quarterly meeting, showcasing a variety of Sumter County artists. The Council awarded over $2 million in grants to support the arts in Alabama, including four grants for Sumter County initiatives. Read more
 
  
Tigers extend winning streak, ready for TV game--UWA picked up its first conference victory since 2004, as the Tigers toppled the Southern Arkansas Muleriders, 24-17, on Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers face Henderson State Thursday night in Livingston as the televised GSC Game of the Week. Read more
UWA get first GSC victory--It took just three matches for UWA head volleyball coach Ron Arenz to get his first Gulf South Conference victory as the Tigers knocked off UAH, 3-1, during Family Day Saturday at Pruitt Hall. Read more
Reisener, Montgomery inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame-- Bob Riesener, former UWA head baseball coach, and Johnny Montgomery, former track athlete for the Tigers, will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame on Homecoming. Read more
